I have been pleasantly surprised by the Nespresso CitiZ. It is very quick and easy to make espresso and froth milk, and the quality is very good. Nestle (the marketer of the this machine and its coffee capsules) offers a wider variety of coffee selections, sixteen as of this writing. So it’s just a matter of finding the one or ones that you like.
The machine itself is relatively small. It’s thinner than a typical drip coffee maker, and slightly deeper. This would be a nice choice for a apartment or small kitchens with limited space. I like the look of it, it’s elegant and modern, and I think it looks nice on the counter top.
Operating the machine is about as simple as it gets. You fill up the water container and turn on the switch. In about 2 minutes the light is steady green. You open up the top and drop in a pellet of coffee and as you shut it, the pellet is pierced. You press to choose the “short” or “long” shot and out comes your espresso.
What really sets it apart besides the great esspresso and simple operation is the integrated milk frother. You can get this machine separate from the aeroccino or built together as with this product. It is very quick and easy to froth milk, which basically involves pouring a set amount of milk into a special container and putting a lid on it and then pressing a button.
The Nespresso pods are filled with perfectly ground espresso coffees. Freshly roasted and ground, the coffee is sealed into recyclable aluminum capsules. The capsules are lined with a film that keeps the coffee from directly contacting the aluminum. One drawback, the capsules for this machine can be purchased only via the Nespresso Club online.
It all cleans up like a breeze. The little Nespresso coffee pellets are encapsulated, pierced and extracted inside, then ejected down into a little container that holds around 8 pellets. You just pull it out and throw them away. From start to finish, you can warm up the machine, froth the milk, make two shots of espresso, and rinse out the frother in about five or six minutes.
In summary, I really liked this machine and I would recommend it. The Nespresso CitiZ is a great smaller and cheaper alternative to the pricey super automatic machines.
